ALTHOUGH Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality a month ago undertook to “speedily expedite” a property owner’s claim for damages, this man had received nothing yet.

The owner of a house on Concourse Crescent, Aston Manor claimed from the metro after his gate motors had been damaged in March.

The damage was caused by a burst main water pipe on the pavement outside the premises. Water ran through his property for more than a day, flooding the gardens and resulting in damage to the motors of both the electronic gates.

Although the home owner and his tenant both called and emailed several council officials and had to submit three quotes, they had no positive outcome or any feedback.

At the beginning of November he did get an indication it would be paid into his account by November 8. Nothing was received that day.

Sam Modiba, spokesman for Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality, said the insurance section of the metro already dealt with the matter.

On October 9 all documents were received and the metro was awaiting the ruling from its insurers.

He requested residents with claims to contact the metro’s insurance section directly and not the officials rendering the service.

Call them on 011-999-6550 or 011-999-6547 to register a claim.

“If the claim is approved by council’s insurers it takes 25 working days to process payment after we have received the signed agreement of loss from the claimant,” he said.
