House robbery gang behind bars

A gang of six highly sought after house robbery and break-in suspects targeting homes in the Norkem Park policing precinct, had been arrested in four different operations the past weeks.

Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, said the breakthrough came after a man was arrested on October 16.

The suspect was walking towards the Esselen Park RDP houses with black bag over his shoulder after a break-in on Theuns Street, Birchleigh North. Members of the metro police and a security officer followed him and he started to run.

The officers found an unlicensed firearm and some of the stolen goods from the Theuns Street housebreaking in his possession.

A second suspect was arrested by the Tembisa Cluster task team at Sethoga Hostel on November 8 when police acted on information given to them by the first suspect.

This arrest led to the arrest of three more men in the early hours of November 13, also at Sethoga Hostel.

The two suspects already in custody identified their three accomplices to the police during a special operation of Norkem Park SAPS’ detectives under command of Lt Col Nelson Manewa, head of the department.

The sixth man was arrested by a Norkem Park SAPS task team on November 14 at a townhouse complex on Pongola Street.

Molokomme said these six men were suspects in several house robbery and break-in cases. He requested victims of especially house robberies to call Det W/0 Sammy Ledwaba on 011-391-1814.
