A 37-year-old man who claimed to have been hijacked on Saturday night has been arrested and charged with perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
According to Kempton Park SAPS, Capt Jethro Mtshali, the man had opened a case of hijacking shortly after the alleged incident took place.
“The man said he and his girlfriend were parked outside a nightclub in End Street at about 10pm when he asked her to get them more drinks. While the girlfriend was in the club, he said he was approached by three men,” he said.
The man said one of the men was armed. They pointed a gun at him and gave him a substance to drink which made him dizzy and knocked him out. He woke up in Hebron near Tshwane.
“When the police looked through CCTV footage of where the crime allegedly took place, they could not find anything in the footage which could back up his statement. The officers then questioned the complainant again.
He then changed the time of the incident and seemed uncertain of some of the details of the crime,” added Mtshali.
He was arrested.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a man in his 20s was arrested when found in possession of a printer he could not account for.
“An officer was patrolling around Kempton Park when he spotted the suspect carrying a black refuse bag and stopped him,” said Mtshali.
When the officer looked in the bag, he found a printer. He was arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods.
