Bangla FC, from Ivory Park, won a soccer tournament played at the Ivory Park Sonyathi local grounds on Sunday.

They beat Ethafeni FC 2-1 in the finals.

The tournament was made successful by the Southern Sun FC, Maredi’s Tavern and community member Boy Nala.

In the first half, Ethafeni FC scored its only goal through Thamsanqa Maisa. The score was 1-0 at half time.

Bangla FC came back in the second half and scored through Tshepo Phasha, while their reliable striker, Bongani Mthanyelo, scored the second goal and saved his team from a draw.

According to one of the organisers, Themba Mzangwa, the tournament was arranged to raise funds for the Tumelo Home for the Mentally Handicapped based at Ivory Park.

“We are aiming to bring our community together and also show support to the disabled. It is important to follow in the footsteps of those giving back to the community. We want to promote soccer and expose talent in Ivory Park,” he said.

Mzangwa added that all donated items were given to the home. “We thank all the teams who played for the support of our community, and especially the sponsors of the event,” said Mzangwa.

In addition, he hopes to hold the tournament every year.

“We are appealing to our community and business people to partner with us and promotesport in the area,” he said.
