Middle-aged man arrested for raping girl (9)

Just as the campaign against the abuse of women and children kicked off on Monday this week, police arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl in Clayville on Monday night.

It is believed the suspect is the girl’s neighbour.

According to the girl’s mother, the suspect started abusing the child in August this year.

“She told me he used to send her to the shops, and then take her to the house and rape her. I took my child to the Tembisa Hospital, where the doctor confirmed she had been raped. I also took her to a private doctor in Clayville on Monday, and he also confirmed the hospital’s report,” said the child’s mother, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her child.

She added that the suspect would threaten her and instructed her not to tell anyone about the abuse.

“She is presently being counselled as she traumatised,” she said.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Constable Tebogo Sesing, confirmed that the suspect had been arrested.
