Telta honours Madiba and veterans
The Tembisa Local Taxi Association (Telta) honoured its veterans when they held a year-end function at Moriting Park.
A moment of silence was observed before the function in honour of the late former South African president, Nelson Mandela.
Telta’s veterans were given groceries by the association. When addressing Telta members during the function, Telta’s general secretary Mr Peter Ntsoane thanked the veterans for paving the way for them in the taxi industry.
“We really thank you for working hard when starting this association. We are pleading with you to accept the groceries as a token of appreciation,” he said.
Mr Ntsoane also said the association called on all drivers to be cautious and to drive safely during the festive season.
“We pray that after working for the whole year in Gauteng without seeing your families from different provinces, you travel and reach your destinations safely. May God guide you and protect you until you come back next year,” he said.
Meanwhile, Telta chairman Mr Aubrey Tshabalala, said the success of Telta should be attributed to the unity of the association. “We thank all of you for the commitment you have shown throughout the year, and we hope that through your support, Telta will grow from strength to strength,” he said.
One of Telta’s veterans, Mr Jeremiah Simelane, thanked the association for the way they treat their veterans.
“We are really grateful for the groceries. We are thankful for the way the current administration is running Telta. We feel happy that we have left it in good hands,” he said.
