Feel good tour reaches Höerskool Kempton Park

Breakfast show host Martin Bester said visiting various schools during the station’s birthday celebrations reflects its strong focus on community engagement and participation.

The Jacaranda FM 40th birthday celebration, the Feel Good Tour, brought excitement and high energy to Hoërskool Kempton Park on May 14, where learners enjoyed live performances by Loufi, giveaways and a live broadcast of the station’s popular breakfast show, Breakfast with Martin Bester.

Station managing director Vuyani Dombo explained the tour is centred around celebrating 40 years of impact, entertainment and community building.

“Along with the station’s slogan, ‘Your Number One Feel Good Station’, everything that makes us proud of being South African must be celebrated,” said Dombo.

“For 40 years, our listeners have been at the centre of everything we do. The Feel Good Tour allows us to step out of the studio and connect with them in a real, meaningful way, in their communities, on their turf, and in true Jacaranda FM style.”

Dombo further highlighted Good Morning Angels, an initiative that has been running for more than 20 years and through which the station has distributed more than R120m to various causes through the power of community.

“There’s nothing that feels better than connecting with your people, in this case, listeners who have become our family. The Kempies’ energy, discipline, values and traditions are something we look up to, and they inspire us so much,” said Bester.

Principal Johan van den Heever expressed gratitude towards the Jacaranda FM team for visiting the school, describing the atmosphere as electric.

He highlighted the importance of balancing academics with fun events, saying learners benefit from experiences such as these, which make them feel part of something special while showcasing the culture and soul of Hoërskool Kempton Park.

“As educators, you tend to forget that you work with children who are overwhelmed with schoolwork and under immense pressure. Sometimes events like this can lift learners’ morale.

“The break from the usual inspires them and they become more focused and committed the next day,” said Van den Heever.

Learners collectively shared their excitement about the visit, praising the welcoming nature of the Jacaranda FM team, while Loufi’s energetic performance was a major highlight of the day.
