Three metro employees nabbed by EMPD

The three men, aged 20, 33 and 40, were positively identified as electrical department employees of Ekurhuleni

THREE employees of the metro’s electrical department were arrested on Thursday for being in possession of suspected copper.

Supt Vusi Mabanga, metro police spokesman, said the Ekurhuleni Security and loss control unit arrested the three at 10.30am. The three suspects were stationed at the electrical depot in Kempton Park.

“A random security check was conducted at the gate by this unit of the metro police. They spotted a suspicious blanket in one of the suspect’s vehicle. Upon investigation they found nine, 1m Bus-bars copper steel under the blanket.

The three men, aged 20, 33 and 40, were positively identified as electrical department employees of Ekurhuleni and could not give a satisfactory account of the steel copper in their possession.

They were arrested for being in possession of stolen goods and detained at Kempton Park Police Station.

They are expected to appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
