Just when people were preparing to celebrate the dawn of a new year on December 31, armed robbers attacked a businesswoman when she was about to open her business in Tembisa.
Her employees and prospective customers were standing in front of the business at about 7.30am when she arrived. Seconds after exiting her car, carrying her beige handbag, two men who were standing just two meters from her employees and other customers, pounced on her.
One pointed a firearm at her while the other grabbed her handbag. They fired a shot into the air and the employees and customers ran in different directions. But when other members of the community heard the gunshot, they ran to the scene to investigate. The two suspects had, however, managed to flee the scene before they arrived.
Even though the victim refused to reveal her identity, she agreed to speak to The Tembisan. “I am still very shocked. This is the second time the robbers have come here. The last time they were here, they tried to rob me, but they did not have guns,” she said.
When asked what was in the handbag, she said, “There was about R300, my ID and driver’s licence.”
Even though the incident happened at Kings Palace, about 100 meters from the Tembisa Police Station, the police only arrived after 45 minutes.
