A 33-year-old male suspect was arrested in connection with a murder and business robbery in Ivory Park, extension 7.

The arrest was made on Wednesday last week. According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, the police found a 24-year-old Ethiopian male who had been shot and killed in Ivory Park.

“The gunshot was heard by neighbours. They investigated and found the victim lying dead on the ground. The neighbours also found a number of groceries from the victim’s tuck shop strewn across the floor,” said W/O Sekgobela.

W/O Sekgobela added that an undisclosed amount of money was also stolen.

“Members of the community apprehended a suspect and waited for the police to arrive. Police later discovered that the suspect was linked to another case opened in November 2013, where three people were shot after closing their tuck shop in the same area,” said W/O Sekgobela.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on two counts of murder and business robbery.
