A 65-year-old domestic worker and an 18-year-old boy of Van Riebeeck Park fled when and hid from housebreakers who gained access to their home.
The home-owner, who did not want her name mentioned, said it happened in the morning on Tuesday last week. The five housebreakers forced open the front gate and kicked open the front door.
The domestic worker and the teenager escaped through the back door before the men got to them. The domestic worker locked herself in her outside room and the teenager jumped over two neighbours’ walls to get help.
He eventually located a neighbour down the street, who notified the police.
The five housebreakers were already gone by the time the police arrived. They got away with two plasma TVs and house keys.
The home-owner said this was the fourth criminal incident in their house. Another break-in occurred in June 2013. Her brother-in-law was shot two years ago inside the house and a passer-by in their driveway.
They have now decided to move to another suburb, where they hope it would be safer.
Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, confirmed a housebreaking case had been opened. The men are still at large.
