A 35-year-old man, allegedly linked to at least three cash-in-transit robberies in Limpopo Province as well as two armed robberies in Tembisa during the early part of 2013, was arrested by the metro police’s housebreaking unit members on Saturday evening after receiving a tip-off from the community.
According to Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, the suspect was cornered at a petrol station in Tembisa at around 5.30am while filling up his vehicle.
The man is believed to be responsible for two armed robberies of cigarette trucks with goods worth well over R1,5m which took place at the beginning of 2013 in Tembisa. At least five warrants of arrest were out for him at the time of his arrest.
“Persons assumed to be friends of the arrested man made death threats to metro police officers who made the arrest on Sunday. Authorities are currently in the process of identifying the source of those death threats calls,” said Kgasago.
The suspect will face charges of armed robbery.
