Fraudsters strike Telta

Fraudsters target local taxi association

By Victor Mukwevho Ne-vumbani

Members of the Tembisa Local Taxi Association (Telta) are fuming about people allegedly using the association’s stamps and letterheads to fraudulently open accounts in and around Ekurhuleni.

The association’s deputy general secretary, Mr Zweli Mnisi, said they are sick and tired of fraudsters making a fortune out of Telta’s name.

“We are calling on all those who have the forged the Telta letterheads, including the general secretary’s signature and contact numbers, to stop their illegal activities immediately. What they are doing is not only committing a crime, but undermining Telta as an association. We will never fold our arms and let them tarnish our name. We have copies of the documents found in the possession of an arrested suspect,” said Mr Mnisi.

He also called on all those who are in need to contact the association’s offices in Oakmoor, Tembisa, if they want to ask for donations from the association.

“We have been donating goods to the needy in Tembisa for many years, but it has come to our attention that there are people who come to us when they are able to help themselves. Instead of helping needy people with uniforms and groceries, we are now donating to professionals who are even richer that the association itself,” he said.

He said even people wanting to book taxis for funeral services must contact the association.

“In order to root out corruption, come and make bookings at our offices,” he said.
