Tembisans talk about Bafana Bafana

Residents shared their views about Bafana Bafana’s performance after they failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the CHAN tournament.

Mr Lipson Mampa said Bafana Bafana did well. “Soccer is a game and it is about winning or losing. The lads tried their best but it is unfortunate that they failed to qualify for the quarter-finals. I am impressed by their performance. Gordon Igesund is the best coach and will patiently turn our football around. If we want to build a winning team for the future, the right structure must be in place from school level.”

Mr Judas Mathebula said, “The team tried its best, it is unlucky they failed to draw against Nigeria so that they could qualify for the quarter-finals. People will always criticise the way the national team played against Nigeria. It is the norm that when South Africans play, we all become coaches. But I think there is only one coach who needs guidance, not criticism against him or his players. The country will continue making the same mistakes of replacing the best coaches and players because when they lose games they fail to accept but instead criticise the players.”

Ms Sulphy Mojapelo said, “Gordon Igesund failed the country and will never win. Some players needed to be replaced but he was just using old players. The new ones need to be given a chance to showcase what they are good at. It looks like the players are not physically fit enough because whenever they play against a physical team, they lose courage, get scared and end up not taking responsibility. They just play for the sake of playing, knowing that at the end of the day they are going to get paid. We are tired of these under-performing players and coach. SAFA should appoint new players from the development teams. There is talent.”

Mr Maswi Mokoale said, “The team did very well throughout the tournament except for the poor performance against Nigeria. Soccer is just a game. The players need to be given a second chance to learn from their mistakes. We should not keep on replacing coaches and players every time we lose. It shows we do not have a direction of where we going as a country. The players need to be more disciplined. I believe in these players, they have great football potential, that is why they were appointed. What they need to do is follow up more on their mistakes and implement new changes if that is needed.”

Mr Solomon Komane said, “Bafana Bafana shamed the country in so many ways. They disappoint us consistently with their poor performance. It is high-time that SAFA appoints new, gifted and talented players to represent the country to take away the humiliation. We have been humiliated enough. These players showed clearly that they are there for the money. South African football legends who know much about international experience should be given a chance to coach the team. These foreign coaches are taking us to nowhere. They are being paid so much but do not make us proud. Gordon Igesund failed us. If he cannot win the CHAN tournament, what else can he win?”
