Identity thief nabbed

She was led into a trap by the police after suspicious transactions have been picked up

A 24-year-old woman was nabbed for fraud last week Thursday after she was lured into a store in Festival Mall by police.

“A woman came into the station to report suspicious transactions she believed were being done using her identity number. When her credit profile was checked, it was established that someone had been using her identity number to make purchases at the store in Festival Mall,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman.

The police contacted the store to arrange for the fraudster to be lured into the store.

“She was contacted by staff at the store under the impression that it had something to do with the recent purchases she made. She came into the store as per the agreement where she found the owner of the identity number and police waiting for her,” added Mtshali.
