TWO men were nabbed in a Du Plessis Street house after it was discovered they were selling goods which were stolen during a housebreaking last week Monday.
According to Adriaan Nel, the men had broken into his late parents’ home in Friedman Street on Monday night last week and took almost everything in the house.
“When I walked into the house I realised it had been broken into. They cut the wire mesh burglar proof and gained entry into the house. They took almost everything they could lift,” he said.
He and his brother, Juan, inspected the house and realised that the fridge, dining room suite, curtains, cutlery, chest of drawers, dishware, bakeware, the hi-fi system as well as the taps had been taken from the house they grew up in.
“It’s the worst feeling ever, knowing that someone has taken things of sentimental value. We hoped they would still be in the house and we could catch them but they had already run away,” he explained.
Nel decided to go back to the house on the Wednesday afternoon to wait and see if the men would return and they did.
“They found me waiting for them in the lounge and I chased them to Du Plessis Street . I lost them when they reached Highveld Road,” he said.
At that point Smart Security, as well as the police, had been called to the scene. While Nel was giving his statement to the police, his brother, who had also been there, noticed their parents’ lounge suite in the driveway of a house on Du Plessis Street with a for sale sign next to it.
“Juan called us to the house and that’s where we made the startling discovery,” he said.
The brothers, along with Kempton Park SAPS and Smart Security reaction officers, found that the home’s contents were scattered all over the yard with some of the goods already for sale or being used in the backrooms.
Two men were arrested on the scene and the other two suspects are still at large.
“We’re grateful to Smart Security and the police for their quick reaction and all their help with this,” he said.
