Hijacker nabbed in Olifantsfontein

His two accomplices got away with the stolen goods, including firearms

A 34-year-old man was nabbed by Kempton Park SAPS and EMPD members after he and two other men hijacked a delivery vehicle on Voortrekker Road on Monday.

“The bakkie, containing goods such as firearms and cell phones, was on its way to the airport at about 3.40pm when a white BMW bumped it from behind,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman.

Before the driver and his colleague could assess the damage, three armed men emerged from the BMW and forced them out of their bakkie into the BMW while one of the robbers got into their bakkie. They were driven to Olifantsfontein.

“In the meantime, a team of police and metro police members traced the vehicle with the assistance of the tracking device and found the victims, one of the suspects and the delivery vehicle.

“The other two suspects had presumably gotten away with the goods in the bakkie,” he said.

The suspect will face charges of hijacking and armed robbery while police still look for his accomplices.
