Robbers nabbed on Pretoria Road

Police believe they could be linked to a spate of robberies in Kempton Park

FOUR men from Alexandra, aged between 19 and 26, were arrested last week Wednesday after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition on Pretoria Road at about 8pm.

The men were stopped while travelling in a silver Toyota Avanza by Const Tefo, who was patrolling in the area. He noticed the vehicle they were in looked like one which was reported to have been involved in an armed robbery earlier that day.

“The officer pulled the vehicle over and searched the car. He found a 9mm Parabellum with its number filed off as well as 11 rounds of live ammunition,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton SAPS spokesman.

None of the men could produce a licence for the firearm and were arrested.

“Police also believe they could be linked to the armed robbery in Primrose Street, Allen Grove earlier that day. The 67-year-old victim told police one of the four men who entered his home at about 7.30pm pointed a firearm at him and they drove off in a Silver Toyota Avanza ,which was the same car these suspects were travelling in,” he said.

Police will continue to investigate then men’s connection to the armed robbery but they will in the meantime appear for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
