A 27-year-old Zimbabwean man was arrested last week Tuesday after he was found with a false identity document at the police station.
The man had gone to certify documents at the station’s client service centre when Const Tumelo Phaka noticed something suspicious about the original identity document while certifying the copy.
“The officer noticed that although the identity document had the suspect’s photograph, the surname was that of a South African which made it more questionable,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman.
The man was questioned on his nationality and although he claimed to be a Zulu South African, it was established that he was Zimbabwean and that the identity document was obtained fraudulently.
“He was arrested and will face fraud charges,” added Mtshali.
