Mother threatened for Nyaope

The Tembisa SAPS arrested a 23-year-old woman for allegedly threatening her mother with a spade.

It is believed the mother refused her daughter R20 for nyaope.

According to the suspect’s mother, Ms Margret Selepane, her child is suffering from substance abuse and their fight started when she demanded money.

“She complained about her stomach cramps and asked for R20. When I said I have no money, she started fighting me. It is not for the first time we have fought because she needed money for nyaope. We have tolerated it for a long time and now I can see that she could end up taking my life because of her addiction,” said Ms Selepane.

She added that her daughter has even sold household items to cover the costs of her addiction.

“We tried helping her and even organised a rehab centre for her, but she turned it down,” said Ms Selepane.

The Tembisa SAPS spokesperson, Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, confirmed that a case of intimidation was opened.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of intimidation.
