The Ivory Park police arrested a 44-year-old man for allegedly committing a business robbery at a PEP store in the Yarona Shopping Centre, Allandale, on Friday last week.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, the victim claimed she was inside the store with another employee when the suspect entered and pointed a firearm at them.
“He instructed them to open the tills. The suspect took an undisclosed amount money and 246 new cellular phones valued at R80 000. The police were informed and they attended to the scene immediately. On arrival, the officers noticed three men running inside the complex trying to flee the scene. The complex’s gates were all closed by security when they realised a robbery was taking place,” said W/O Sekgobela.
She added that the suspect began shooting at the police.
“The officers chased the suspects and managed to arrest the man with the firearm. The other two suspects are still at large. A vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects was found idling. The stolen phones were discovered inside the vehicle. Another firearm was also recovered from the scene. We appeal for any information that can help lead to the arrest of the two suspects still at large,” she said.
A case of business robbery and attempted murder was opened at the Ivory Park SAPS.
