ONE suspect, believed to be in his late teens or early twenties, was nabbed after he and two of his accomplices attempted to break into a Kraanvoël Road home on Tuesday at about 9.30am.
“I was standing in my kitchen and when I looked through the window, I saw the three jump over my neighbour’s wall. I signalled with my finger that they shouldn’t do it and they jumped out,” said the neighbour, who was home at the time of the attempted housebreaking.
She watched the three walk up Grasuil Avenue but they quickly turned back and jumped over the wall again.
“I sent the homeowner a message on WhatsApp to tell him to alert his security company, MML Security, as I do not have their number,” she added.
MML Security reaction officers Wikus van Vollensse and Basie Panther attended to the scene and caught the men as they were breaking into the house.
“We saw they had broken the kitchen window to gain entry and we watched as they walked into the house. We hoped to entrap them in the house and catch all three but they saw us through the window and made a run for it,” explained Van Vollensse.
Panther chased one of the suspects who was jumping over the walls of the neighbouring houses in an attempt to get away.
“I chased him down and caught up with him about five houses away from the house they tried to burgle. We both hurt our hands on some of the sharp edges of the palisade fences. He looked me dead in the face before I caught him,” said Panther.
The police were called onto the scene. The other two suspects are still at large.
