Armed robbers nailed in Hillbrow

The men were arrested in connection with two crimes that occurred in Norkem Park

THE Norkem Park detective task team arrested two suspects linked with a bank and business robbery in Kempton Park in Hillbrow on Thursday afternoon last week.

At the scene of the arrest, a white Nissan Hardbody, believed to have been used as a getaway car during the robberies, was also found.

According to the spokesman for the Norkem Park SAPS, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, the arrests come after a tip-off to the police from a member of the community.

The first incident was a bank heist on January 14 at about 2pm where six armed men robbed an ABSA Bank in Birchleigh North of an undisclosed amount of money.

In the second incident, the same group robbed a butchery on Ossewa street in Chloorkop on February 22 at 10am.

“The armed group of men robbed the owner of the butchery of cash, a laptop and meat,” Molokomme said.

Fortunately, no shots were fired and no-one was injured in both incidents.

The two arrested suspects, aged 27 and 30, are both from Zimbabwe. Police are still looking for the remaining four suspects.
