PRE-SCHOOLS and créches around Ekurhuleni can enter their toddlers into the 2014 Ekurhuleni Kiddies Games.
The games are an initiative by The City of Ekurhuleni and the Gauteng Department of Sport and Recreation as a way of ensuring that the early developmental stages of children are met, whether it be grooming them for a future in sports, academics or the arts.
“Any child’s bright future, in any field they choose to take, lies in his developmental stages, therefore the fine tuning of their gross motor skills is vital,” a metro spokesman said.
Three areas of Ekurhuleni, including Tembisa, Kempton Park and Edenvale, will from Monday, March 10 hold area trials for the games.
Pre-schools may register a team of 10 children, consisting of five boys and five girls in each team, and the kids should be between the ages of five and six years.
The activities include ball throwing, ball hopping, ball kicking, ball dribbling, ring throwing as well as cycling.
This round of games will serve as trials, and the teams who make it through to the next round will compete at the regional games, which will be held on April 15.
After the regional games, teams will be selected to represent these northern areas in the next and final rounds at the city-wide games. These will be held on May 9.
Pre-schools who are interested in participating may either enter their teams to register on the day of the event or before the time.

All events will take start at 9.30am for 10am.
