THE quick reaction and bravery of a little girl led to the arrest of her mother’s alleged murderer shortly after he had stabbed her in front of her and her six-year-old sister on Saturday morning in Spartan.
The eight-year-old daughter of Annemarie van Zyl (33) called the police shortly after the man stabbed her mother and robbed her place of business in Newton Road.
The little girl and her sister were at their mother’s workplace on Saturday morning at about 7am when Clement Kgothatso Ramawela (25), a former employee, walked into the premises.
“The suspect had a sharp object in his possession and he stabbed the woman several times before escaping with a cash register with an undisclosed amount of cash and running from the scene,” said Kempton Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Jethro Mtshali.
The eight-year-old then contacted the police and sector members responded to the call.
“The members chased the suspect, who had not gotten too far from the crime scene, and managed to apprehend him with the murder weapon and cash register in his possession,” added Mtshali.
Ramawela will face charges of murder, armed robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.

A mother of two girls had been stabbed to death in front of them at a business in Spartan on Saturday.
The armed suspect (23), still with a stolen cash register in his possession, was arrested shortly afterwards.
The incident took place at 7.30am at the store on Newton Road.
