KEMPTON Park SAPS is looking for a man, known as Tommy Watson, who allegedly defrauded a company in Spartan of over R400 000 when a cheque he used to pay for 95 cell phones in December, bounced.
According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman, the man had approached the business with the intention to purchase the phones as part of gift packs.
“He requested cell phones with a value of R4 500 each as part of the gift pack to be given away by Global Solutions, the company he said he was from. He said he had to have the devices before December 13,” said Mtshali.
Watson was sent the quote and he accepted the price of R4 507 per HTC One Mini and ordered 95 handsets.
“The company’s accounts department received payment via cheque and confirmed that the amount had been received on December 12. Watson collected the cell phones with a driver the following day.
“It was only on December 20 that the finance department noticed that the cheque had bounced,” said Mtshali.
The company had not been able to reach Watson either via email or his cell phone number.
