Rape cases escalate in Ivory Park

The Ivory Park SAPS is appealing to women in the area to not walk alone in the dark.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, rape cases are constantly reported at the station.

“Rape cases occur continuously. Women get raped in the early hours of the morning when going to work. School girls who walk to school also get raped in the morning.We urge women to not walk alone in the dark. When going to work, ask a family member to accompany you. School girls should also walk in groups when going to and returning from school,” she said.

W/O Sekgobela said four rape cases were reported on Monday last week, which includes the case of a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly raped in an open veld near Ivory Park, extension 7.

“It is alleged the girl was going to school when she the suspect approached her and threatened her with a sharp object. The victim was raped and left in the veld. In the other cases, the victims were allegedly raped at Ebony Park, Ivory Park, extension 9 and 10. Police are appealing to community members to all fight against all crime and to help the victims. Please help identify those criminals,” she added.
