Committee elections in wards 13 and 17

The elections will be to fill three vacancies available in the two wards

THE 2014 ward committee elections for wards 13 and 17 will be held on March 27 and April 29 respectively.

Both elections will be for the purpose of filling vacancies within the committee and invitations are extended to all organised formations, interest groups and sectors to register and nominate candidates for the elections.

Ward 13 will appoint a new community safety representative. Nomination forms are available at the public participation offices in Kempton Park and the Phomolong offices.

The closing date for nominations is March 20 and the elections will take place on March 27 at Phomolong Secondary School at 5.30pm.

Ward 17 will be appointing new ward committee members to represent two sectors, namely economic development and city planning as well as women and children.

The nomination process will be open from March 24 until April 4 and nomination forms are available at customer care centres, libraries and public participation offices. After completion it should be submitted to the public participation offices on 4th floor, Kempton Park Civic Centre.

Elections will be held on April 29 in the exco room at Kempton Park Customer Care Centre at 6pm.

Requirements to be elected as a ward committee member are:

The person must be a South African citizen.

The person must be a registered voter of the particular ward.

The person should be at least 18 years of age.

The candidate should have no criminal convictions and

The person must not owe council money for services, or be in arrears but is willing to make the necessary arrangement to settle the account according to set council policy.

Requirements to be able to participate as a voter during elections:

The person must be a South African citizen.

The person must be a registered voter of the particular ward and

The person should be at least 18 years of age.
