GMA and child welfare put smiles on children’s faces

GAUTENG Management Agents (GMA) and Child Welfare Kempton Park visited Stepping Stones Pre-School last week to hand out party packs, filled with sweets and goodies, that put big smiles on the little children’s faces.
The property management company has joined hands with child welfare in order to give back and assist child welfare with some of its projects Stepping Stones, a pre-school for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, was the launch of the new partnership.
“As uncles, aunts and cousins we can all appreciate a relationship with a child and it is with this sentiment that we as GMA staff look forward to this partnership with child welfare,” Natacia Lessmann, marketing manager at GMA, said.
GMA chose to help child welfare because although it is assisted a little by government, it is still an NGO that relies a great deal on community donations for the day-to-day running of the organisation.
“Not many people are aware that child welfare is not a government institution, yet it is the first place people think of when a child is in need. Without assistance from the community, child welfare would never be in the situation to effectively serve its community,” Lessmann said.
GMA will also donate 16 new laptops to Child Welfare Kempton to ensure they are able to do their daily tasks with ease and efficiency.
The old computers at the society will be donated to All Stars, a place of safety for boys from the street. The boys, who attend school and ABET classes, will be able to use these computers for homework and assignments.
“We want to put out a challenge to other local businesses to help out and get involved in charity projects,” Lessmann said.
The organisation doesn’t believe in just dishing out money as a form of charity but also believes that giving back your time is just as important.
“That’s why it is important for us at GMA that we came out to Stepping Stones to hand out the gifts personally, so we can see the smiles on the children’s faces.”
Jaco Terblanche, chairman of Child Welfare Kempton Park, said he was looking forward to the partnership with GMA and that this was just the start of even greater things to come.
“Today is the launch of something big. This partnership will make a huge difference in the lives of children around Kempton Park. We are looking forward to giving back to the community and making them happy and fulfilled,” Terblanche said.
The day proved to be a successful one as the kids really enjoyed the warm company from the GMA staff members, as well as the newly appointed social workers at child welfare.
“GMA would like to thank Jaco Terblanche, who, together with the board of child welfare, have moved mountains in improving not only the image of child welfare but also its impact in the community,” Lessmann said.
