A 35-year-old man from Bushbuck Ridge was sentenced to 18 years in prison for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of unlawful ammunition and possession of stolen vehicles.
According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, Peter Thabo Ncibi was sentenced in Kempton Park Regional Court on February 21 after his arrest in Birch Acres in December 2012.
“In December 2012, police responded to a business robbery at an Engen garage in Edenvale, where four suspects had robbed the garage of an undisclosed amount of money. They also stole one of the customers’ wallet.
After the robbery the suspects fled the scene in a silver Audi,” Molokomme said.
Through intensive investigation by Norkem SAPS, Ncibi was arrested in Birch Acres just days later.
“When police arrived at the suspect’s home, they found him inside a silver Audi A4. Upon searching him and the vehicle, they found two unlicensed firearms. The police also established the vehicle was stolen and used as a getaway car on the night of the robbery,” Molokomme said.
The car was reported stolen at Masogi SAPS in November 2012.
Ncibi was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for possession of two unlicensed firearms, three years for possession of unlawful ammunition and five years for possession of a stolen vehicle. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Col Phuti Sekoma, station commander of Norkem Park SAPS, said he was happy with the arrest and this would serve as a lesson to others who were doing crime in the area.
