A teenager (18), who broke into a friend’s home, had been arrested along with his accomplice (21) by the Norkem Park Police Training Unit on March 14.
According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, the teenage boy was recognised by the victim of the burglary as his friend, when the suspect and his partner in crime were brought into the police station by officers following their arrest.
“On the day of the arrest, the owner of the burgled house and her son were at the police station to report that their house had been burgled when police arrived with the suspects. That was when the owner’s son recognised the teenager as his best friend and schoolmate,” Molokomme said.
The suspects were arrested at 2.30pm while the unit was doing routine patrols and stop and searches along Martin Crouse Street in Norkem Park. They came across a blue VW Polo with the two men inside. Upon searching the suspects and the vehicle, the police discovered jewellery and two plasma TVs in the boot.
“The suspects told the police that the items belonged to a sister of one of them and the sister’s home was on Strydom Street in Birchleigh North. But this was not true and the police found the goods actually came from a home on Mooirivier Drive in Norkem Park.”
The men will face charges of housebreaking, theft and possession of suspected stolen goods.
