A 26-year-old Tembisa man will spend the next five years of his life behind bars for stealing a woman’s cell phone.
According to Norkem Parks SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, Sphamandla Khumalo Nkomo was found guilty of armed robbery on February 12 after stealing a woman’s cell phone in October last year.
“On October 17, 2013 at about 9am, a domestic worker (39) was walking along Olienhout Street in Birchleigh going to her place of work, when she was approached from behind by an unknown male. The man grabbed her and pointed a knife at her.
“The suspect then grabbed the woman’s cell phone and ran away,” Molokomme said.
Luckily, a few minutes later, the woman saw a police van driving towards her and stopped it. The police, together with the woman, drove around the area to see if they could spot the suspect before he could get too far away.
“After driving around for some time, the suspect was finally spotted by the victim on Quintus van der Walt Street in Norkem Park. The police found the woman’s cell phone on the man.”
The suspect was also found in possession of the knife he used during the robbery.
Three of the eight years imprisonment was suspended for five years.
