AN Exaleni Section, Tembisa man was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for armed robbery in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, David Tshepo Maphanga (33) robbed a mother and daughter of their car keys, cell phone and jewellery outside their home in Van Riebeeck Park on June 5, 2002.
The mother and her daughter returned from Bible School in Birchleigh at 7.45pm. On their arrival at their home in Platberg Street, the daughter got out of the car to open the garage. A charcoal Toyota Corolla stopped behind their car.
“Three men got out of the car and pointed firearms at the mother and demanded money and cell phones,” Molokomme said.
The woman told the men her husband was following them from church and would arrive at home at any minute. The suspects then stole the victim’s car keys, necklace, cell phone and a ring and fled the scene.
Maphanga was arrested by Detective Warrant Officer Kenny Mthembu a few days later in Tembisa.
