The Memeza Organisation, based in Midrand, donated personal safety alarms to pupils at several secondary schools in Tembisa recently.

Female pupils at Phomolong, Masisebenze, Oracle Ponelopele and Maphutha secondary schools all received personal safety alarms.

According to Mr Thami Mbele, a representative from Memeza, the donation is part of their road show in partnership with the National Lottery.

“The road show seeks to encourage communities to stop violence against women and children. We are aiming to secure women and children in underprivileged communities. The alarm is simple and effective, and is activated by simply pulling on a lanyard. We hope the personal alarms are going to help reduce crime within the community,” he said.

Mr Mbele added that crime is a problem in every community around Gauteng.

The alarm emits a high-pitched sound, which will attract attention and help alert people to a possible crime or attack.
