One suspect was shot and killed while his three accomplices were arrested by officers of the Provincial Tracing Unit.

The shooting occurred in Ivory Park, extension 3, during the early hours of Wednesday morning last week.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, officers from the tracing unit were investigating four suspects related to a farm attack in October last year.

“The police found out that one of the suspects stayed in Ivory Park. Residents told the officers that the suspect and his friends often only returned home late at night,” said W/O Sekgobela.

The officers waited for the men to return.

The suspects eventually returned at 2.30am. They began offloading good from a vehicle.

The police identified themselves to the suspects. One man drew a firearm and began shooting at the officers.

Police officers returned fire, fatally wounding the man.

The other three suspects were all arrested. The wounded suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The vehicle being used by the suspects was reported as stolen at the Lyttleton Police Station last month.

One firearm and stolen goods were recovered from the scene.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges of attempted murder, the possession of unlicensed firearms and for being in possession of stolen goods.
