TWO men allegedly using a fraudulent bank card to buy diesel were nabbed at a garage in Chloorkop on April 3.
They have appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of fraud and theft.
According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, the two men, aged 19 and 43, were caught out after their fraudulent activities were uncovered by a private investigator from West Bank in Johannesburg.
“The private investigator was following up information about two suspects who were allegedly using a false bank card to purchase diesel at the garage in Chloorkop. The suspects apparently used the card about every second day to fill up a car tank as well as containers they would bring with them,” Molokomme said.
It is unknown how long the suspects used the fraudulent card but they always used the same bank card to perform these transactions. It is estimated they stole diesel worth nearly R40 000 this way.
“Upon information supplied by the manager of the petrol garage and investigations by the private investigator, the police were alerted and the suspects were arrested and found in possession of fraudulent bank cards of West Bank and ABSA Bank.
