Dreams of studying come true

The dream of obtaining a quality tertiary education is beyond the financial means of many South Africans.

For two promising young students, Fulufhelo Magoba from Limpopo and Teboho Phiri from Tembisa, this dream will now become a reality after being awarded a R38 000 study bursary each.

Magoba and Phiri received this life-changing prize as part of a joint initiative between The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) and Rosebank College, an educational brand of The IIE.

The initiative identified five South Africans who showed the necessary drive, motivation and passion to turn opportunity into results and rewarded them with the financial means to further their studies. The initiative took place at Rosebank College, the Sunnyside branch, on Tuesday last week.

“At Rosebank College, we aim to make quality education accessible to all South Africans. The reality is that even though there are so many people out there with ambition, affording tertiary education will always be a struggle. That is why we decided to change the lives of a few hand-picked South Africans, like Fulufhelo and Teboho. We believe they are the type of students who will see their ambitions through to the end,” said Mr Greg Fillmore, the managing director of Rosebank College.

Winning the bursaries was no small achievement. Magoba and Phiri, together with three other students from different parts of the country, came out tops against 2 683 other students who took part in the initiative.

Students from all five Rosebank College campuses, located in Durban, Pretoria Sunnyside, Pretoria CBD, Braamfontein and Auckland Park, participated by sharing their visions of how they would pursue their ambitions after completing their studies.

The excited duo shared their thoughts about how the bursaries would change their lives for the better.

“I fell in love with Rosebank College the first day I set foot on campus. I am here because I have a purpose in life and I won’t stop until I fulfil my purpose. Thanks to this bursary from Rosebank College, the road ahead will be so much smoother,” said Magoba, a first year graphic design student.

Phiri had an equally inspiring message, “Growing up, I did not come from a privileged background. To improve my future, I knew that education was important. Now that Rosebank College had given me this great opportunity to pursue a rewarding career in IT, I am well on my way to ensuring a brighter tomorrow for myself and my parents who did so much for me,” he said.
