According to the Tembisa SAPS spokesperson, Constable Tebogo Sesing, the suspect reported that his Toyota Condor was stolen.

“The suspect came to the police station during the early hours of Saturday morning under the influence of alcohol. He failed to provide the relevant information about his vehicle. During the opening of a case, the police were alerted that the suspect had struck a person with his vehicle in Sethokga section and had fled the scene.The victim was certified dead at the hospital,” said Constable Sesing.

The 28-year-old man was arrested and detained at the Tembisa police cells.

He is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on the charges of culpable homicide and defeating the ends of justice.

“I am happy with the arrest. I urge the community to not report false cases to the police. Residents are also encouraged to not leave the scene of a crime or accident. It is a crime to do so,” said Const Sesing.
