TWO employees of Ekurhuleni Metro were arrested on Tuesday last week for allegedly stealing printing cartridges from a storeroom in Kempton Park.
Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said a Mozambican man, who bought the stolen cartridges, had been arrested the same day.
Kgasago said a series of unauthorised entries into a storeroom at legal and corporate offices in Kempton, with the resultant disappearance of several printing cartridges, prompted the metro police’s loss control investigators into action.
“The investigations into the ‘break-ins’ and theft pointed to two employees at the same office who apparently gained access to the storeroom because they were unlawfully in possession of the keys to the storeroom. The person in charge was on leave,” he said.
The arrested employees led the metro police to the buyer of the stolen property who was arrested at the corner of Plane and Kelvin streets the same day. The arrested buyer was charged with possession of stolen property. His two Ekurhuleni Municipality accomplices, who are 34 years and 39 years old, were charged with theft of printing cartridges. The case docket was registered at Kempton Park Police Station.
They briefly appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
