Woman (64) raped

The Tembisa SAPS arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly raping a 64-year-old woman in an open veld at Vusimuzi section on Saturday last week.

According to the Tembsia SAPS spokesperson, Constable Tebogo Sesing, the victim was going to Vusimuzi section when the suspect approached her.

“She said it was in the evening when she met the suspect, who offered to accompany her while she was walking. When they passed an open veld, the suspect allegedly grabbed the woman and took her to the veld, where he overpowered and raped her,” said Const Sesing.

When the victim saw a patrolling police vehicle, she screamed for help.

“The police had the screaming and came to her rescue. They managed to arrest the suspect. He was detained at the Tembisa police cells and is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on the charge of rape. I am happy with the arrest. I encourage women to not walk alone late in the evening, or in the early hours of the morning. Ask a family member to accompany you to try avoid becoming a rape victim,” he said.
