A 40-year-old mother and her daughter (4) were sent for psychiatric evaluation after she allegedly used the child to make pornographic movies. The woman, who may not be identified, appeared in Kempton Park Regional Court on Wednesday and Thursday last week. The Director of Public Prosecution (DDP) also asked for further investigation.
She will face charges of rape, child abuse and the making and distribution of child pornography.
The case was remanded to August 4.
According to Elmarie Pretorius, general manager and investigating officer of the People Search and Rescue Unit (Psaru), a man got hold of her through a community police forum and told her the woman had sent him pornographic material of her small daughter via WeChat.
He said what started as innocent chatting on the social network, quickly escalated to her sending pornographic videos involving herself and her daughter to him, Pretorius said.
Although Pretorius initially only had the mother’s WeChat ID, she tracked her down with the assistance of the Child Protection Unit.
Pretorius said the mother, who was originally from Kwa-Zulu Natal, was arrested on November 28 last year, two months after she had arrived in Kempton Park.
She had been in custody ever since and her daughter had been placed in foster care.
According to Pretorius the woman fled from Margate when her 20-year-old daughter became suspicious of what was happening.
