The man was seen on the CCTV cameras of a retail store the perfume in his pants

A man was caught on the CCTV cameras of a retail store in Birch Acres Mall on May 18 stealing a bottle of perfume.

The 23-year-old man was seen standing at the cosmetics department of retail giant Edgars shortly after 9am. He grabbed a 100ml Revlon perfume bottle, hid it inside his pants and attempted to walk out of the shop without paying for it, according to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS.

“Luckily, the operator viewing the CCTV footage had already spotted the man and notified the security working at the entrance. The suspect was arrested on the spot,” Molokomme said.

The perfume was valued at R259,95.

Later the same day, at the same shop, a man and a woman were arrested for shoplifting at about 2pm.

The couple, both aged 20, were found with items to the value of R1 200.
