A task team has been established in Pomona to deal with the proposed low housing project in the suburb.
Residents elected to act on residents’ behalf in the Pomona Residents Association are Terry Rubenstein (chairman), Nico Booijse Fiona Pittuck, Liami Dippenaar,Derek Brown, Willie Saayman, Riaan Verster, Cheryl Brown and Dino Minuzzo.The meeting was also attended by Clr Pieter Henning.
Matters discussed were about the identification and selection of suitable candidates who will be required, due to their qualifications and experience, to act on the association’s behalf.
“These candidates were deliberately excluded from the initial meeting due to the fact that they will need to be fully focused on their mandated tasks and will be required to be interviewed by the association to ensure that we have appointed the correct people to the task at hand,” said Rubenstein.
People qualified in environmental studies, infrastructural expertise, town planning, support services, legal representation and investigative journalism and press liaison are required.
The committee will liaise with residents at regular intervals.
The proposal, made by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, involves the construction of housing units which will cover about 12 hectares of vacant land bordered by Outeniqua and Methley roads.
The development will be at the back of an existing, upmarket townhouse complex, Sheffield Rock.
According to a brief outline of the project, supplied by Nemai Consulting, individual stands will be serviced with electricity, potable water and sanitation. The project will also include the construction of formalised roads within the development footprint, providing access to each stand.
Nemai Consulting had been appointed as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to complete all requisite environmental processes and seek environmental authorisation on behalf of the applicant.
