A water leak problem in Rhodesfield will only be dealt with by the metro in the next financial year as the municipality currently has no consultants to help them.
“The metro has investigated the water leakage problem in Rhodesfield. Tests revealed there is no chlorine in the water, which means it is underground water,” a spokesperson for the metro said.
“At present we do not have any consultants appointed to assist. As a result the matter will only be addressed in the next financial year.”
Residents and their ward councillor had been battling for five months now to have the problem solved.
The water comes from a spot on the corner of Household and Fred Driver streets. Water has been streaming down two blocks since December last year.
Ward councillor Tracey Butler said an electricity meter box next to the water leakage started sinking into the ground some time ago. That was when they discovered the problem.
Butler said the leak had been there for quite a while but that the problem got really bad in December.
The water comes down as far as Wolk Street and Vallei Road and potholes started forming on Fred Driver Street as a result of the constant water flow.
Ground around the leakage has been dug up and cordoned off.
