NORKEM Park SAPS are concerned with the increasing crime levels, especially those of common assault and domestic violence.
According to their spokesperson, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, most of these crimes occur after the perpetrators have been drinking heavily.
“During weekends, many assault cases are reported at our police station and most of them are those related to domestic violence, including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm as well as common assault.
“In most cases, perpetrators commit these crimes while they are under the influence of alcohol,” Molokomme said.
This concern comes after a 67-year old man was arrested on May 25 by Norkem police.
The victim alleges that a few days before, he had gone to the man’s home on Alicia street, Birchleigh North, where his car was being fixed, to check on its progress.
Upon arrival he says two men, one the owner of the home and the second the perpetrator, came out shouting at him for shaking his gate roughly while it was locked, while the other hit him on the head with his firearm.
The man sustained injuries to his head.
In separate incident a man was arrested after slapping his 11-year old daughter in the face, which caused her to swell up and sustain a blue eye.
According to police, the incident happened on May 22 in their home on Mooirivier Street while the mother was away.
