Cops cut hijacker’s joy ride short

He was nabbed by police after he tried to drive away with the stolen car

A 27-year-old man was arrested during a stop and search operation in the central business district on Thursday, two days after he had hijacked a car in Tembisa.

“At about 3am metro police and Kempton Park SAPS members were conducting operations on North Rand Road. They spotted a white Ford Figo with no registration number,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman.

They tried to pull the car over but the driver sped off.

“The police managed to pull him over on the same street. An enquiry was made and it was established that the vehicle was stolen during a hijacking in Tembisa earlier the week,” he said.
