Reggae star donates shoes

Reggae star Khakhathi "Vharida" Tshisikule donated school shoes to pupils at Mvelaphanda Primary School on Friday last week.

When he arrived at the school flanked by friends and fans, pupils jumped for joy as he also performed.

After the handover, he said he will return to the school on June 28 with other artists to donate more shoes to the pupils.

“To be honest, this is just the beginning. We are going to donate more shoes with the support of other artists.

“After moving around the township for the whole week, I have realised that there are a lot of children who go to school barefoot.

“I contacted other artists who agreed to help me in buying the shoes,” he added.

The chairperson of the School Governing Body (SGB) Mr Muvhulawa Netshirando, said he was very happy that the artist decided to help the school.

“I am very impressed by the donation and this will go a long way into helping those who are really in need,” he said.

School principal, Mr Muladelo Mathavha, said it is good for the school to have people like Mr Tshisikule who gives back to the community.

“It should also be stated that as parents, we support artists by buying their music, and it feels good when they also think about our pupils,” he said.

He later performed to a full house at Ndweleni’s Place.
