Sick note lands ‘doctor’ in jail

She was nabbed after a patient handed in a fake medical certificate to their manager

A 60-year-old woman was arrested on May 28 after she was found to be issuing fraudulent medical certificates to patients.

“An employee had requested a medical certificate to present to their manager. The documents had the authentic letterheads of a Tembisa based doctor. However, they were issued by the woman who is not a doctor,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman.

The police were alerted and an officer managed to trace the woman and set up an appointment with her at Kempton Square.

“The fake doctor was questioned and later arrested when it was discovered she was practising and issuing medical certificates under false pretences,” said Mtshali.
