520 families benefit from foundation’s generosity
The Chong De Cultural and Education Foundation RSA donated blankets and groceries to 520 families at Sethokga Hostel in Tembisa on Sunday morning.
According to the chairman of the foundation Mr Lin Ta Ying, the foundation started donating to needy families around the country five years ago.
“Last year, we donated blankets and groceries to poor people in Pretoria North and we decided to help Tembisans this year,” he said.
When asked why the foundation chose Tembisan, he said he is very close to Clr Lesetja.
“When he told me there are poor people without blankets and food in Tembisa and the surrounding areas, I decided to do something.
“As a medical doctor based in Midrand, people living in Tembisa are my brothers and sisters and cannot suffer or even die of hunger in our presence,” he said.
Meanwhile, standing in for the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubelethe, the MMC for Roads and Transport, Clr Thumbu Mahlangu, thanked the donors for supporting members of the community.
“We are really grateful that they have decided to help those who are in need. We hope the foundation will return next year and continue with their good work,” he said.
When asked if Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) hope to have other business people partner with EMM in future, he said as the government, EMM is ready to partner with the business community in alleviating poverty in the region.
“Anyone who wants to partner with us is welcome. In fact, our responsibility as leaders is to make sure that our people enjoy the fruits of democracy without hunger and other social challenges,” he said.
