Officer puts Ivory Park on the map
Ivory Park SAPS Constable Mavis Makaleng Lebee won the trophy and gold medal for being the best goalkeeper at the Gauteng SAPS Football Tournament.
The tournament was held at Vaal University of Technology’s sports grounds on Saturday last week. Constable Lebee plays for the Gauteng SAPS women’s team.
The team played against Vaal University of Technology’s team and defeated the students 2-1 in the finals of the tournament.
The tournament kicked off in February. Constable Lebee hopes to be selected for SAPS national team this year.
He love for football dates back to her primary school years.
“I grew up playing soccer with boys on the street. And I also played for the Ivory Park team called Chipa FC. That was when I realised I loved football. It keeps me healthy.
“When playing I always feel excited. When I play nothing is stressing me,” she said.
She added that she feels great to have won the title. “I encourage young women to consider football as a sport because it keeps you active. Soccer is really interesting,” she said.
Constable Lebee also won the title last year when she played in the SAPS Inter-Provincial Women’s Soccer Tournament.
The management at Ivory Park SAPS congratulated her for the great achievement. Management said it is proud to have a dedicated female officer such as Const Lebee at the station. “She must just keep it up and continue to put Ivory Park on the map,” management stated.
